The Christof Industries team recently visited the County Government of Kilifi, Kenya, to discuss the treatment of microbiological waste in a safe and environmentally friendly manner, which our team has been perfecting for over 28 years.
Our in-house production of innovative devices for the medical sector started back in 1995. Its sole aim was to ensure that medical waste is no longer a danger to human health or the environment.
sinTion: Safe and Environmentally Friendly Disposal of Infectious Waste
Particularly in developing countries, vast quantities of infectious waste are still dealt with through incineration. But the burning of infectious waste has numerous disadvantages from both an economic and an ecological perspective. Christof Industries has consciously chosen a different path with its sinTion technology. Instead of transporting and incinerating dangerous waste, we make it safe, easy and efficient to dispose of it directly on-site. The principle: A combination of saturated steam and microwave.
“I had the great honour of meeting the County Government of Kilifi. I was invited to visit two hospitals in Kilifi County (Malindi Hospital and Kilifi Referral Hospital) together with the healthcare department.
After the hospital visits, I shared my thoughts with H.E. Gideon Mung’aro and discussed the opportunities to get modern healthcare waste management on the ground.”
Nestler Wolfgang, Managing Director of Christof Systems GmbH
Combination of Steam and Microwave technology
We are using both technologies, which results in reduced treatment process cycle time. A small steam generator inside our device heats up the waste, and then the microwaves switch on for 6 minutes. Moist heat and steam generated by microwave energy treat the waste.
Microwaving technology is one of the most environmentally friendly technologies to treat medical waste. This technology emits no greenhouse gases, and wastewater is decontaminated during the process. The technology can also be combined with methods like shredding to reduce waste volume. In that case, any materials that cannot be reused after the microwave treatment can go in the shredder and be disposed of safely.
Certified and in Use All Over the World
sinTion is being used in 18 countries around the globe – not only in Central Europe but also in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Latin America. It is also listed by the renowned Robert-Koch-Institut as a recognised and certified disinfection technique.
The video below shows how sinTion, a technology combining microwave and saturated steam, disinfects biohazard waste, including sharp waste. Subsequently, shredTion transforms it into general leftovers for further utilisation.
The sinTion Container – Mobile and Rapid Solution
The sinTion Container is a standard-size container that houses both a sinTion and a shredTion unit, providing flexible and mobile sterilisation, disinfection, and shredding of infectious waste. It was specifically designed to address shortages in hospitals or when rapid deployment to a crisis zone is required.
